5 Signs You Are Stuck In A Career Rut
Its 7am on Monday morning and you are already dreading the working week ahead.
This is just one of the 5 tell-tale signs that you are stuck in a career rut. If you experience any of these signs then you might be stuck in a career rut.
1 – You don’t get excited or “pumped up” about your work anymore
Slogging it out at work when you can’t get excited or positive about the tasks at hand is tough. You might even start to feel resentment towards your team, manager or the company.
2 – You day dream about working somewhere else or doing another job A LOT!
If the best escape is daydreaming about working in another job or for another company then you are stuck in a rut. Day dreaming every once in a while is fine but studies show that people who day dream about alternate realities often are less likely to take action and change their situation.
3 – You can’t see a purpose for your work
When you can’t remember why you are doing the work you do and have lost all purpose you will feel less motivated. To be motivated and to lose the “stuck” feeling you need to be doing work that is rewarding, stimulating and has meaning to you.
4 – You stay in the job because you don’t think there’s anything better out there
Do NOT stay in a job just for the money. Do NOT stay in a job because you don’t think you won’t get anything better. It’s an easy excuse to say that the money is too good or that you won’t be able to get the same flexibility especially when you see other people being able to secure a role with the same or better benefits and salary. You need to take a look at what is really holding you back (lack of confidence perhaps?) and start planning your move forwards.
5 – You dread going into work
If you dread going to work then you need to start assessing your options. Going to work should be rewarding, enjoyable and give you a sense of accomplishment.
