I Have Applied For 50+ Jobs And I Haven’t Scored An Interview

If you have applied for over 50jobs and haven’t scored an interview then there is something wrong.

It’s soul destroying and often in the moment we are just so focused on getting as many applications out there that we are committing job search fail after job search fail and not even realising it.  In my experience (as a career coach and in HR and Recruitment) the below are the top 3 reasons you are not having any progress with your job search.

1 –Your resume isn’t tailored for each job

This is the biggest reason that you are missing out on getting an interview.  If your resume is generic and doesn’t hit the specific requirements for the role that you are applying for then its not going to get noticed.  You need to compare the keywords in your resume with the keywords in the job ad.  A great tool for comparing your keywords is https://www.jobscan.co/

2 – You are applying for jobs you aren’t qualified to do

I’m not talking about applying for a role where you might miss a couple of the requirements; I am talking about applying for jobs where you are grossly under-qualified.  I’m talking about administrators with no project management experience applying for senior project manager level roles.  You need to apply for roles that mostly match your skills and qualifications.  If you are new to the world of work and don’t have much experience that’s ok.  You just need to make sure you are applying for roles that match up with the experience that you do have.

3 – Your resume contains spelling, grammar and formatting mistakes

This is a no brainer, but you would be surprised by how many people have heaps (and I do mean heaps) of mistakes in their resumes.  This is just a massive job search fail.  If you can’t take the time to get your resume right then how are you going to perform in the role?  It’s not cool people.
