This Is How To Answer So Tell Me About Yourself?

The most important interview questions is “so tell me about yourself?” but so few people get it right.

In fact most people get this so so sooooooo very wrong.  The fact is answering the “So tell me about yourself” questions is often the very first time you get to speak about yourself in an interview and this sets the scene for how you will be perceived by the interviewer.  If you mess up the answer to this question then you will find it very hard to recover and actually land the job.

The best way to answer this questions is with an “I am a……….”

In fact, the best way to start is by giving your best credentials or job skill.

“I am a social media manager”

With expertise in ……….

Continuing on from the above, provide details on what you specialise in.

“I am a social media manager with expertise in growing engagement

across all social channels”.

Give a snapshot of your career and or academic achievements beginning with the most relevant. Only go back a maximum of 3 jobs.

“I am a social media manager with expertise in growing engagement across all social channels. My most recent experience was at CompanyX where I grew engagement from 50% to 85% across Facebook and Instagram. Prior to this I was a freelance social media consultant and provided social media services to an array of clients including CompanyY and CompanyZ. Before this I was a marketing consultant at Company AA and worked on delivering a brand rollout across all digital platforms including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter”

In the workplace I am described as……………………………..

This next sentence will cover your top 3 strengths.

“In the workplace I am a positive, organised and delivery focused team member”

End with a question……..

Now it’s time to ask a question about the role you have applied for or company that you are interviewing at.

“I saw that this role has a high focus on growing social media engagement.  Is there a target set for this as yet?”
